We’ve Moved!

Scarlet Calliope Oxford Cotswolds 11

And I sure wish it was to this beautiful manor!  No, actually it’s just that I know you probably get a lot of mail in your inboxes so you may not have noticed that you weren’t getting any updates from me.  The reason is because I finally moved my blog over to my own URL, www.ScarletCalliope.com, and you’re invited to visit!

I’ve been updating my blog with pictures from my trip to London in August and you might enjoy seeing what we were up to, it was quite the adventure! I just posted photos today of our visit to Oxford and the Cotswolds and soon I’ll be posting the pictures from our Downton Abbey tour. YES!  I am such a lucky lady that I got to go to Highclere Castle, where they film Downton Abbey. We also got to see Bampton Village, which is used for the village scenes in Downton Abbey.

Soon I’ll also be posting pics of the extravaganza that is Roger’s Gardens Halloween Shop and it’s so hauntingly beautiful, you’ll be inspired all season long!

So, head on over to my new blog home, Scarlet Calliope, to see what I’ve been up to and don’t forget to subscribe to my blog over there so you don’t miss a single update!

xo,

Christine Barker

Do you use Google Gmail?  If you use Gmail on a desktop computer you’ve probably noticed that your inbox has been split into three different tabs.

  1. Primary – This tab includes email from friends and family and some emails that I subscribe to.
  2. Social – This is all the stuff from FB, blogs I subscribe to and other social accounts.
  3. Promotions – This tab includes emails from companies that I subscribed to to get their newsletters.

Because of this, a lot of emails that I want to see are ending up in these other tabs and I forget to go to those other tabs to check. Sometimes I find out about sales or promotions too late to take advantage of them.

Keep Calm Send Email

The solution is very simple. All you have to do is go to the emails in those other tabs and drag them to your Primary tab. Once you’ve dropped it there it will ask you, “Do this for future messages from xxxxx@xxxx.com?” And then you need to click “Yes”.

I’ve also just found out that Gmail Users are also able to disable the tabs and revert to the classic inbox view, with all emails going to one list. To do this, simply click on the button below your picture in Gmail that looks like a gear, then choose “Configure Inbox” and turn off (uncheck) any and all tabs that you don’t want.

When I view emails on my phone I see all of the emails all together in one place. But, when I view them on my desktop computer using Gmail, they are split up and I often forget to check tabs 2 and 3.

Don’t forget to move your emails from me at Scarlet Calliope to your Primary tab, that way you won’t miss any of the crafty inspiration, new Lovebug Creations product announcements or flea market field trip pictures!

Have a wonderfully creative week!

xo,

Christine Barker

The date for Google to end Google Reader is fast approaching!  July 1st will be here before you know it!

It’s time to get serious and save your RSS Feed before you won’t be able to access them anymore. Today I’m sharing a link to a post I wrote a while back about how to export your RSS Feed and import it into BlogLovin’.

Blogging: Google Reader is being discontinued so join BlogLovin!

If you like the article, please feel free to share it (with a link back to me), like it and comment on it!

Have you heard the news?  It’s got the blog world in an uproar!  So, I’m hitching my wagon to BlogLovin so that I can follow my favorite blogs without any disruption.

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Good Luck, dear readers! It looks like BlogLovin has a way to import all of the blogs you currently follow on Google Reader over to BlogLovin as long as you do it before Google Reader goes away!  Google plans to shut down Reader on July 1, 2013. The first step is to Export Your Feeds. First, log in to your Google account. Then, by using this link, it will immediately download your RSS Feeds. If you’re not sure which reader you’ll be using, it’s nice to have a copy of those feeds on your hard drive.

If you’ve decided to use BlogLovin’ to follow your favorite blogs, there’s a simple step to export your feeds right into Bloglovin‘. Super easy and you won’t miss any of your favorite blogs!

Good Luck!

xo,

Christine

I’ve often thought that I should be making money from my blog. What blogger hasn’t thought, “Here’s all of this free space and I could be earning money while I sleep!”

There are several ways to begin earning income and here are some links to articles so that you can decide which will work best for your target market.

1. How to Get Sponsors for Your Blog from Ashley Stock

This is a really great article, because the target market of Little Miss Momma is similar to the group that I’m looking at. The blogger, Ashley Stock, appeals to moms, women, crafters, home cooks and home decorators.

2. Sponsorship Programs from KylaRoma.com

Adding sponsors to your blog is a big trend online right now and if you want to jump in it can be hard to know where to start. KylaRoma.com has had an advertising program on her blog for over two years (that she just decided to end) and in her work with Freckled Nest she’s part of the team that manages advertising for the successful parenting and handmade blogs, Smile and Wave and Prudent Baby. She also spent the last few years of her nine to five life in marketing and has managed six figure media buys in print, radio, television and online for national theatre tours and high profile bands.

Kyla shares some of her tips and thoughts on adding sponsorship to your blog.

3.  Make Money: Add Banners Ads to Blogger from Blogknowhow.blogger.com

One of the things that makes Blogger such a great blogging platform is the facility to add advertising to your Blogspot blog and make money from it. In this article, blogknowhow.blogger.com discusses how banner advertisements on your Blogger blog can make money for you. By banner advertising they mean advertising in addition to Google Adsense or Adbrite that you may have already added to your Blogger blog. For information on adding Google Adsense to your blog please read their articles on Google Adsense.

4.  How to Add Google Advertisements (Google AdSense) to Your Blog or Website from Thesitewizard.com

An article explaining briefly the steps involved.

  • What is Google AdSense?

Adsense is Google’s advertising network that places those sponsored ads you see on many websites. Google automatically checks the web page it places the ads on and displays advertisements that are relevant to the page. This produces highly targeted adverts for the page, allowing, hopefully, higher returns for the advertiser, the advertising network (Google) and the publisher (you).

  • Before You Start
  • Steps to Getting Google AdSense Ads on Your Site
  1. Apply to Google
  2. Configure Your Ads
  3. Pasting the Google AdSense Code onto Your Blog or Web Page
  4. Entering Your PIN into the Google Site
  • Cautionary Notes: Things to Look Out For
  1. Never Click Your Own Google Ads
  2. Don’t Expect a Fortune Unless You Have Traffic
  3. Don’t Put Ads if You’re Selling Something

5. How To Display Ads In Your WordPress Sidebar from Blog-well.com

A lot of new bloggers want to include advertising on their site, but find the idea of adding an advertisement to their sidebar daunting. If your blog runs on WordPress software, it’s a simple matter of using your text widgets to show ads. In this post, they’ll show you how.

  • What is an ad?
  • How to put an image ad into a text widget
  • How to center the image within the text widget
  • How to include two ads per text widget
  • Google and Advertising
