Lovebug Creations Jaded Blossom Wedding Blog Hop

Welcome Wedding Hoppers!

ScarletCalliope Wedding Hop 1

Thank you for joining our hop, hosted by Jaded Blossom and Lovebug Creations! You’re just over halfway through and there’s more amazing wedding projects for you to see! (If this is your first stop, don’t miss any of these incredible projects. Start at Candace’s!)

Don’t forget to visit and leave a comment on each blog to be entered to win some blog candy!

I’m a big lover of weddings so this was a blog hop that I was super excited about. We each got to pick a project to make and because I collect vintage wedding cake toppers, I thought that creating my own would be perfect.

I had so much fun with this project!

For this project I used the Jaded Blossom Wedding Wishes stamp set. (Thank you, Jaded Blossom!) It includes this gorgeous wedding dress, a sweet dove, an artistic swirl and 11 beautiful sentiments. I stamped the dress image onto a Tiffany & Co envelope and embossed it. Then I cut around the stamped image and glued it onto a piece of Buttercream colored card stock which I then cut.

I used “Buttercream” Rumple Ribbon from Lovebug Creations to create the sash for the dress and the base of my cake topper. The Buttercream ribbon is part of the Lovebug Creations “I Do” collection and also includes Simply Black and Simply White.

Did you notice my altered book cake? I’ve been waiting to use it forever! I hope you like it!

Blog Hop: Oh No! Kimi’s Turning the Big 3-0!

You only get to turn 30 once, so we’re celebrating Kimi Cremar’s birthday in a BIG way! With a blog hop featuring 15 INCREDIBLE crafters on 14 blogs, you’ve been seeing a fantastic variety of projects, tips and techniques. If you missed any of the party locations before you got here, the map to the party is down below.

Kimi Birthday Blog Candy 3

Before we look at my project, I want to tell you thank you for joining our blog hop. It means so much to me that people are visiting and leaving comments, it really inspires me to keep creating and posting my handmade love! You’re at stop number 3 and the road map for the hop is down below in case you get distracted. (Oh look, glitter!)

I’m really not much of a card maker, mostly because I’m always remembering people’s occasions at the last minute. But, I do love making mini albums, so when I found out it was Kimi’s big three zero, I started pulling together my favorite papers, paints and embellishments.

Scarlet Calliope Kimis Blog Hop 5

I started with a chipboard album and painted each of the pages, front and back, first with gesso (it works like a primer) and then with regular acrylic paint. Then I selected some papers and using my Curvy Cutter from EK Success, I cut the scrapbook papers into rounded squares. I then took those cut papers and cut each of them again into 1/3 and 2/3 sections, so that I would have coordinating papers to mix and match on each layout. I used my Cricut “Storybook” cartridge to cut out the numbers. And since Kimi is having a milestone birthday, rhinestone bling was definitely in order!

Scarlet Calliope Kimis Blog Hop 3

Kimi’s favorite colors are Pink and Light Lime Green so I used those colors lavishly. All ribbon used throughout is Lovebug Creations Rumple Ribbon. Party hats and balloons are cut from the Cricut “Celebrations” cartridge.

Scarlet Calliope Kimis Blog Hop 2

I LOVE Bunting, or garlands, or pendants or whatever the cool kids are calling them these days They’re so fun and whimsical I just had to use them on top of bakers twine. And, by the way, I found red and white bakers twine on clearance for 70% off in my local Target dollar section Friday night. That means you can score some for just $.30!

Scarlet Calliope Kimis Blog Hop 1

I was inspired to use the layered ticket idea from a project that my creative friend Dorcas, the Crafty Card Angel, used. I stamped my sentiments onto card stock and then used my “ticket” punch. Cupcake was cut from the Cricut “Doodlecharms” cartridge.

Scarlet Calliope Who wants to Party

Scarlet Calliope Birthday cake and candle

I’m going to be part of a fun blog hop on Saturday, April 6, 2013 to celebrate Kimi Cremar turning 30!  And you know what’s really fun?  The fact that her birthday in Roman Numerals is XXX!  Thank you to Dawn Rene for figuring this out, lol!

For my friends who don’t know Kimi Cremar, she’s one of the super sweet owners of Lovebug Creations and one of the nicest people I know. There are many things that make her special, but here’s my favorites:

  • She’s one of the biggest fans of all of the crazy stuff I make (only surpassed by my husband!)
  • She’s super creative and makes the most gorgeous ribbon
  • She’s a wonderful kind-hearted person who listens and gives great advice

Crafting: Glamour in Pink Layout featuring Lovebug Creations Rumple Ribbon

Hello Friends!

I’ve got some crazy color and patterns going on this week! My inspiration for the colors in this layout came from the Lovebug Creations Rumple Ribbon that the Creative Team received last week. These are brand new colors with a hint of shimmery sparkle and I just love the names: Princess Danika, Lady Jenna and Queen Taylor. You’ll be able to buy them in the shop on Friday!

Since I wanted to do a project with a wild side, I went over to check out what Shimelle has going on. I love her style because she loads up her pages with lots of fun bits and pieces and uses lots of eye-popping color.

Sketch Seven by Shimelle

I used her Sketch to Scrapbook Page layout (Sketch 7) to figure out where everything should go.

Glamour In Pink scrapbook layout by Christine Barker

I’ve had this pink unicorn paper for a while and combined it with some other papers I’ve had in my stash. The key to this layout is lots of layering! Just keep adding, and when you think you’re done, add some more! (Sally Jean Alexander gave me this advice!)

First, I glued the pink unicorn paper, black and white striped paper and the argyle paper to my base paper. Then, I ran a basic stitch in black thread all around the edges. Next, I stamped and heat embossed the HELLO sentiment on black chalkboard paper and used a border punch along the sides.

Next, I attached the picture to the black chalkboard paper with some washi tape.  I layered the black chalkboard paper on top of a pink and white print paper, which was then layered over a black and white petite polka dot paper. I used a lot of foam squares and they’re pretty much under every element on this page. Then, just because there isn’t enough pattern yet, I layered all of that on top of a really graphic black and white paper.

Glamour In Pink scrapbook layout by Christine Barker

I added some white pom poms to the back of the black n white polka dot paper. Next, I used a punch to punch out a 3/4 scalloped circle (using a technique I saw on Pinterest) and layered that on top of a floral paper to create a journaling card.

Once the journaling card was attached, I glued down the picture. Now the fun begins! I’ve had some of these bits and bobs laying around in my stash for at least 10 years. Seriously, there is a pink suede tag next to the journal card and I know I’ve had it forever. It was perfect for this project!

I have to tell you about one of the techniques I used to create the turquoise design that’s peeking out from under the ribbon. The technique is from a tutorial by Jill Cornell on Shimelle’s blog about how to heat emboss on vellum. I’ve been on a vellum kick lately so this tutorial was perfect for me. It’s super easy, but makes a really fun embellishement!

Glamour In Pink scrapbook layout by Christine Barker

I moved and played around with the embellishments until my eyes were crossed and finally got everything put into place. The final touches were to add the white “Perfect Pair” tab to the photo area. Next, I gave the page a generous splash of white paint drips and flings and of course adding the Lovebug Creations Rumple Ribbon was the Pièce de résistance.

Can you see the sparkle in the ribbon? Kimi Cremar, the owner of Lovebug Creations, created this ribbon especially for Jaded Blossom. They are releasing extra special “Fight for a Cure” stamp sets and dies this week and these ribbons are perfect. You’ll want to visit Jaded Blossom on Friday to see the inspiring projects featured in their Release Blog Hop!

I’ve got another project that I’ve been working on that I can’t wait to show you!  It’s almost finished and it’s going to feature more of these beautiful pink-hued ribbons. I’m really excited about it. If you listen really closely, you might hear the faint sounds of a calliope playing. I’m crossing my fingers that our weather holds because this super fun project needs to be photographed outside. Send me your sunny thoughts!

Thanks so much for stopping by. I would love to hear your comments, questions and anything else you want to tell me in the Comments section. You don’t know how much it means to me when you take time out of your day to write a note!

xoxo,

Christine
